Mission Board Report – December 2011
The Mission Board has had a busy and very rewarding end of the year.
We have continued our “cooking classes” with Ron Tolson for Hope House. Once a month families, friends, and/or strangers cook under the direction of Ron and the meal goes to feed the residents of Hope House. You may sign up in the narthex for cooking or give monetary donations to buy the food. This is an ongoing project every month.
The Mission Board was delighted to be able to buy The Women’s Center of Hope (the Hope House for women and children) a washer and dryer for their facility. The center does such a wonderful job taking care of over 50 homeless women and children. We wanted to help them in their mission.
A collection for “World Mission Offering” was taken during October. A total of $1309.00 was collected.
We started the holidays by giving 66 bags of food to 3 food pantries for Thanksgiving. The Salvation Army was so appreciative when the truck came to deliver the food. They were getting bare on their shelves and the need was still great.
The collection for food for Christmas has started along with the Mission Tree which has gifts that may be purchased for needy families. We have 15 families from the Salvation Army. They will be given food and presents this Christmas. The “Coats for Christ” box is in the narthex where gently used and clean coats are being collected to be given to the needy. Bell ringers from the congregation rang bells early in December for the Salvation Army.
One of our biggest mission is the week we host SHALOM – Dec. 18-25. Members of our church have signed up for food, chaperoning, van driving and a host of other jobs. The ladies of Stitches for Christ have crocheted afghans for each of our guests. The American Baptist Women will be giving sweatshirts and socks. We intend to start the Shalom season with all the holiday spirit that we can show to these people who are in need of a kind and loving church. Link SHALOM Mission Page.
During the month of December the Mission Board will be collecting an offering for the retired ministers and missionaries to show our appreciation for all that they have done for God and for us.
Please check the Mission section of our church’s new updated website for upcoming mission projects that you can participate in. (Mission Opportunities) You can also see the missionaries and other organizations that we support with monetary donations. (International Missions Page)
We have had a wonderful year spreading the love of this church to others. We wish everyone a Merry Christmas and are looking forward to another inspiring new year.
