Local Missions

"And whatever you do in word and deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him." Colossians 3: 17

The Mission Board consists of 9 members of the congregation plus our Associate Pastor. These people are responsible for chairing and volunteering to work with the congregation on the following local ministries:

America for Christ Offering

In March this offering is taken for missions in America, helping to fund programs for the disadvantaged. In 2011 $1249.00 was raised.

Alcoholics Anonymous:

First Baptist provides a meeting place for AA on Mondays and Thursdays at 7 PM.

Christmas Baskets

In December food items and Gifts are donated by members of the congregation and delivered to needy families in our area.

Coats for Christ

Beginning in October and continuing through the Winter Months, gently used coats, gloves, mittens and scarves are collected to be distributed to people and families who are in need.

Thanksgiving Food Pantry

In November donated food items are collected in our Sanctuary and then divided equally and delivered to local food pantries for distribution.

Great American Clean-Up

In April we participate in this National Program to clean up trash in our community. A specific area is designated for our help and our youth groups clean it up.

T.O.Y. Boxes

In February, Valentine boxes are filled with snacks and small gifts donated by the congregation and mailed to college and military personnel. In 2011 nineteen boxes were mailed.

Ministers & Missionaries Offering

In December and during the entire month an offering is collected to give as an extra bonus to retired ministers and missionaries.

CD Ministries

Each Sunday's Worship Service and some special events are recorded on CD's and made available to shut-ins. Portable CD players are being made available to those who need them on request. This Ministry is expected to be expanded in 2012.

Hope House

First Baptist is very involved in mission work with Hope House. Volunteers prepare and cook a dinner for the residents on the first Saturday of each month. In April personal care items were donated by the congregation which the Mission Board made into Hope Tote bags. In 2011 there were 39 bags delivered.

Salvation Army

First Baptist is also very involved with this mission. In July 2010 school supplies were donated by the congregation and delivered to the Salvation Army. In December members of the congregation will be ringing bells at local collection kettles. The Salvation Army has also be the recipient of monetary and other donations from First Baptist.

Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts

First Baptist charters Boy Scout Troop 718 and Cub Scout Pack 19 and allows them the use of our facilities for meetings, overnights and banquets. We also have a Scout Sunday where the Boy Scouts are invited to participate and lead in our worship service.

SHALOM

In December and March we provide nightly shelter for the homeless in our church building during one week in each month. They are served dinners and breakfasts and provided with shower and laundry facilities, socializing and offered a safe and warm place to sleep. In March 2012, we will be housing SHALOM the week of February 26 - March 4.

 The Mission board also supports many other opportunities that may come about throughout the year. For example, 63 soccer balls were donated by members of the congregation to a church member who was going to Nicaragua for medical missionary work in October 2011.
